How to Tell You Have the Wrong Job Candidate
When looking for someone to fill a role at your company, you need to be sure you have the right person for the job. Not only does this mean you need to look for appealing qualities in your job candidates, but you also need to notice the red flags as well. Here is how you can tell whenever you don’t have the right job candidate.
They’re Not Punctual
Showing up late to an interview doesn’t reflect well on a potential job candidate. It tells the employer that this person doesn’t care deeply about the position for which they’re applying. Not only that, but you won’t want the person you hire to be late every day, as this reflects poorly on your business, and they won’t get as much done in a given work day, which harms company efficiency.
They Aren’t Prepared for the Interview
If your job candidate is serious about your job posting, they’ll study up on your company’s goals and values. If your job candidate doesn’t seem to be prepared for the interview, it suggests that they don’t really have a strong interest in your company, and you’re going to want someone who’s passionate about working with you.
They Lie to You
There are certain pieces of information that you should be able to verify, such as past employers or positions that a job candidate has held. If you can’t confirm this type of information, it’s likely that they’re lying to you in order to give themselves an edge to try to claim the job position. Information on job candidates should be able to be verified, and you need to be sure that the person you hire actually has the credentials that they claim to have.
Poor Grammar
Job candidates will be sending in cover letters and resumes, and they’ll be speaking to you as well during the interview process. Proper grammar is necessary for presenting oneself in a professional manner. If a job candidate speaks to you in an informal way, they’re probably not going to be a good fit at your company.
